Finding joy in the act of creating… how it all started

This journey started long ago. As “chance” would have it, Mom (Sally Ann Hall), saw a sign along the road offering a hat-making class. She decided to give it a go and so began her never-ending love affair with felt-making. Of course, I eventually caught that bug from her.

About 2005 I retired from being a public education teacher and we opened Spirited Hands Studio. We got to spend each day making felt together and teaching workshops ourselves. Over the years, we had the chance to travel and take workshops from other fabulous felt-makers. We invited and hosted other felting teachers at our studio in Tucson, AZ. We shared the joy of creating and meeting many new friends, fellow artists, and makers.

That time was a gift!

Still located in the Sonoran Desert in sunny Tucson, AZ the current day Spirited Hands Studio (SHS Upstairs) continues Sally’s spirit of adventure, curiosity, and creativity. My daughters, Kate and Sam, have joined me in carrying forward the tradition of handmade and shared. Although I have explored many mediums such as drawing, painting, clay work, glass fusion, wood sculpture and welding; by far, my medium of bliss is wet-felting.

We currently offer small group instruction in wet-felting for all levels of experience .

May you experience the joy of creation your own self.

Fiberly yours,

Susan Thompson
