Feltmaking Workshops Tucson, Arizona

Felting 101

In this class you get a solid grounding in the basics of good felting technique.  It’s not sewing.  It’s not weaving.  It’s not knitting.  So, what is it…how does the magic actually happen?
You’ll discover how, why, and when those fibers actually do the amazing trick of transforming themselves into FELT!
In the learning you will make a sample piece of flat felt and a small clutch bag.

Class Cost $95.00 (includes materials)

"Make and Take" Fiber Flowers
Southwest Fiber Art Spring Festival
Sahuarita Town Center
March 2009
At the Spirited Hands Studio booth, participants could "make and take" their very own felted fiber flower as well as shop the many fine felted items offered.  During this mini-class, each felter went away with their newly made "forever in bloom" flower pin and a set of instructions to make more beautiful buds later!

January 2009 Handbag Party for 4
Four friends got together and scheduled a felting "party".
The results...
Four exquisite handbags came into being over a two day workshop party.  Choosing from Merino wool with a silk gauze underlay, students followed their own design and color urges.  This particualr method of construction utilizes  wet-felting and a resist pattern to transform merino wool roving fibers into a durable and unique textile handbag.

What will these four friends decide to make at their next party?
We can't wait to see...silk nuno-felt overblouse, shawl, fedora, vessel. nuno-glow lamp, wall or window hanging, rug.  The possibilities are endless. One of the beauties of the ancient craft of making handmade felt is its versatility.  Transforming individual loose wool fibers into a durable textile allows for creative freedom.  Flat pieces such as rugs or tablerunners as well as 3-d pieces including vessels, hats, etc are all made using that same transforming magic of the wet-felting process.  Paint with fiber, sculpt with fiber, dream into being with this green and tactile friendly medium.  Hurrah for sheep and all of their wooly friends!
